Cardinal Sarah: Widespread Communion in the hand is part of Satan’s attack on the Eucharist

Catholicism Pure & Simple

From LifeSiteNews:

ROME, February 22, 2018

The head of the Vatican department overseeing liturgy is summoning the Catholic faithful to return to receiving Holy Communion on the tongue and kneeling.

In the preface to a new book on the subject, Cardinal Robert Sarah, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, writes: “The most insidious diabolical attack consists in trying to extinguish faith in the Eucharist, by sowing errors and fostering an unsuitable way of receiving it. Truly the war between Michael and his Angels on one side, and Lucifer on the other, continues in the hearts of the faithful.”

“Satan’s target is the Sacrifice of the Mass and the Real Presence of Jesus in the consecrated Host,” he said.

The new book, by Don Federico Bortoli, was released in Italian under the title: ‘The distribution of Communion on the hand: a historical, juridical and pastoral survey’ [La distribuzione della comunione sulla mano…

Pope Pius IX Proclaims the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception

Catholicism Pure & Simple

Today is the commemoration of Blessed Pope Pius IX, (13th May 1792 – 7th February 1878), born Giovanni Maria Mastai-Ferretti, who was Pope from 16th June 1846 to his death on 7th February 1878. He was the longest-reigning elected Pope in the history of the Catholic Church, serving for over 31 years.

On December 8, 1854, having spent all of his holy life – his boyhood, his priesthood, as bishop, cardinal and Pope – at the feet of the Mother of God, the most Blessed Virgin Mary, and having deeply considered also, in his exile at Gaeta, the earnest petitions of Catholics all over the world in its behalf, Pope Pius IX defined ex cathedra, in the glorious Basilica of Saint Peter’s before one hundred and seventy bishops and innumerable pilgrims come literally from the ends of the earth, the divine dogma of Our Lady’s Immaculate Conception. The…

Catholicism Pure & Simple

“Bacon Priest” Father Werenfried, 1987
Founder of the international Catholic Charity ” Aid to the Church in Need” in 1947

On January 31st, 20o3, fifteen years ago, Fr Werefried van Straaten went to his eternal rest.  He had celebrated his 90th birthday just two weeks before his death.

Fr Werenfried van Straaten is almost a legend in the Catholic Church. A Dutch Norbertine priest, he has become known and loved throughout the world thanks to his powerful message of charity and love, and its fulfilment in the work of the charity that he founded in 1947, Aid to the Church inNeed.

This was the man who urged his fellow countrymen to help the impoverished and starving Germans after the Second World War – calling for generosity, forgiveness and new hope, instead of bitterness and recrimination.

Although known to generations as ‘the Bacon Priest’ because of his practical approach…

Candlemas: The Presentation of the Lord and The Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Catholicism Pure & Simple

In many cultures, including in some Latin countries today, Candlemas marks the end of the Christmas season. It is celebrated on February 2nd, the 40th day after Christmas, and is technically known as the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Dom Prosper Guéranger, O.S.B., wrote in 1871 that “We apply the name of Christmas to the forty days which begin with the Nativity of our Lord, December 25, and end with the Purification of the Blessed Virgin, February 2. It is a period which forms a distinct portion of the Liturgical Year…”

The basis of the Feast of the Purification was the Jewish tradition that women were considered unclean after the birth of a child and were not permitted to enter the Temple to worship. This was 40 days after the birth of a son and 60 days after the birth of a daughter. At the end of the…

Latin Mass, Latin Exorcism, Latin Sacraments Crush The Devil

Catholicism Pure & Simple

from:http://www.traditionalcatholicpriest.com

Ancient Catholic Missals show that the Latin Mass Canon has been basically the same ever since Pope Gregory the Great (560-604). Pope Pius V (1504-1572), only slightly modified this ancient Gregorian Missal, along with some of the rubrics.  He did not modify the Roman Canon itself.  He then promulgated this ancient Roman Latin Mass in all places (except where there was still in use another Rite that was 200 years or older).  This did not include where the Byzantine Rites were being used.  But remember, the vast majority of Catholics are Roman Rite Catholics.

Since then, slight changes have been made, like new saints feast days, but the Tridentine Missal, or St. Pius V Missal was in use all over the Roman Rite Church for 400 years.

But then, in 1965, this Tridentine Missal was translated…

Now is the time for a “Third Spring” in England

Catholicism Pure & Simple

By Dr. Jack Scarisbrick

Famously, in 1852 John Henry Newman, preaching at a celebration of that restoration of our Hierarchy, spoke of a ‘Second Spring’. This yielded a rich harvest. But now we need a third.

In the last 167 years England has produced two very different, contrasting Catholicisms. A third is now urgently required.

To explain.

With the restoration in 1850 of a fully-fledged hierarchy led by the flamboyant Cardinal Wiseman, what had been a small, inward-looking, largely rural and, in the not-so-distant past, harshly persecuted Catholic community finally came into the full light of day. A rich harvest of often ‘spectacular’ converts (like John Henry Newman) had greatly helped to give that community new self-confidence; and then the influx into our burgeoning industrial towns of thousands of Irish families fleeing famine and destitution would soon turn it into a largely…

“Inter-communion is not allowed between Catholics and non-Catholics”: Card. Sarah

Catholicism Pure & Simple

“Inter-communion is not allowed between Catholics and non-Catholics. It is necessary to confess the Catholic faith. A non-Catholic cannot receive communion. This is very, very clear. It is not a matter of freedom of conscience. ” This is how Cardinal Robert Sarah, prefect of the Divine Worship Congregation, responds to those who have seen an intercommunion between Catholics and Lutherans in a response given by Pope Francis to a Lutheran during his recent visit to the Lutheran community of Rome. “We give communion to Catholics,” giving communion to everyone is “a nonsense,” says the African Cardinal.

“There is no intercommunion between Anglicans and Catholics, between Catholics and Protestants. If they go together, the Catholic can go to communion, but Lutherans or Anglicans do not. ” Without a union in faith and doctrine, opening the doors to intercommunion “would promote profanation.” “We cannot do it. It is not that we must…
